Bracknell

A Berkshire civil parish and town, Bracknell (/ˈbr knəl/) is the Greater London Urban Area's westernmost area and the Bracknell Forest Borough's administrative centre. A market village and part of the Windsor Great Forest, when it was declared a New Town, Bracknell experienced a period of huge growth during the mid-20th Century. Planned at first for a population of 25,000, in the late 1960s, Bracknell New Town was expanded to accommodate a population of 60,000.

Bracknell absorbed the hamlets that were surrounding including Old Bracknell, Ramslade, and Easthampstead as part of this expansion. It was decided that should undergo renovation because of Bracknell's age. Representing an exemplar development, Bracknell is the first post-war New Town centre to have been substantially regenerated. Bracknell residents that can speak English include 94%.

Bracknellian' is demonym for a person from Bracknell. In its right in 1955, Bracknell was made a civil parish. It was granted borough status in 1988, and changed its name to Bracknell Forest. Camberley, Crowthorne, Reading, Wokingham, Slough and Windsor, Bus services go from Bracknell.

Playing home matches at Larges Lane, Bracknell Town F.C. are members of the Hellenic Football League Premier Division. Named after Oscar Wilde who created The Importance of Being Earnest's 'Lady Bracknell' character, The Wilde Theatre was opened in 1984. Because the site at Bracknell avoided encroaching on land that was quality for agricultural, the location was preferred to White Waltham, which was considered.

A church, a parade of shops, a primary school, a community centre and a pub are at the heart of most Bracknell neighbourhoods. To regenerate the centre, the Borough Council works in partnership continuously with Regeneration Partnership of Bracknell (comprising General and Legal and Schroder). Used for exterior of the police HQ in the series, Bracknell is given the name 'Laxton' in the TV detective series Pie in the Sky and Waterside Park.

Former national champions are the Bracknell Bees Ice Hockey Club, who play in the English Premier League. Located on the same site, that involve a younger crowd other youth groups, Saint Johns Ambulance Cadets, these consist of an ACF detachment. Also in the area is Bracknell and Wokingham College of further education.
